Race Your Past Self
Your last attempt just became your next opponent.
You've done the same benchmark workout a dozen times. You've got a dozen stopwatch numbers to show for it and still no real feel for whether you're actually getting fitter, just faster on the days you felt good. Race Your Past Self, part of Compete in ROXFIT Ultra, fixes that by turning every previous attempt into a ghost you race again in real time. Improvement stops being a guess you make afterwards and becomes something you watch happen, rep by rep, while it's still happening.
How Race Your Past Self works
Every attempt you've ever logged for a workout gets kept, PB included, nothing gets buried or overwritten. Open that workout, pick any past attempt as your target, and start again. As you move through the session, you're either ahead (green) or behind (red) against that effort, with the live time gap shown the whole way through, not just at the finish. Cross the line and you already know whether it was actually better than last time, because you watched it happen, not because you're comparing two numbers after the fact and hoping you remember how each one felt.
Why racing yourself beats a stopwatch
A finish time on its own doesn't tell you much. A 45-minute effort could be a strong session or an off day, and a single number can't tell you which. It also can't tell you where the time actually went: did you go out too hot and fade, or hold something back you didn't need to? Racing your past self answers both. You see the gap building or closing station by station, so a fade shows up as red creeping in during the back half, not as a mystery you try to reconstruct from memory afterwards.
It also turns a solo session into something with actual stakes. Training alone doesn't have to mean training against nothing, your own history is competition enough, and it's the one opponent whose form you always know.
Where to find it
Open the workout you want to repeat and choose Race Yourself from the mode picker before you start. You'll see a list of every past completion, tap the one you want to beat, your most recent, your PB, or anything in between, and the ghost loads automatically. If you've never completed the workout before, log one baseline attempt first. Race Yourself needs something real to race against, it won't invent a target for you.
Who gets the most out of it
Anyone repeating the same session on purpose. That's benchmark workouts you test yourself against every few weeks, a weekly conditioning piece you use to track form, or a HYROX-specific session you run through in the build-up to a race. It's less useful on a one-off workout you'll probably never do again, there's nothing to race yet. The value comes from repetition, which makes it a natural fit for exactly the kind of structured training HYROX athletes already do.
Getting the most out of it
Race your most recent attempt when you want a week-to-week read on form, it's the fastest way to know if a training block is actually landing. Go straight for your PB when you're chasing a breakthrough and want to know exactly what beating it would take. Either way, watch where the colour changes, not just whether you finish ahead. A session that's green early and red late is telling you something specific about pacing, and that's worth more than the final result on its own.
Common questions
Does it work with any workout? Any workout you've completed more than once, structured sessions, custom builds, or anything from the Workout Library.
What if I stop partway through? The live gap is there the whole way, so you'll still see exactly where things stood up to that point, it isn't an all-or-nothing result.
Can I race the same workout against different past attempts on different days? Yes. Nothing about picking one attempt locks in the others, they're all still there next time.
